| Dancers have
appeared sporadically in my art over the years. Since the summer of 2000,
however, they have taken over completely. It might have something to do
with turning 50 and finally accepting my body. Dancing nude women of size
was the first image to emerge. Now, men have entered the scene. The
inter-connected bodies in this work express the oneness of all beings
which is visible in dancers. The woman of size and her handsome partner on
the right express the sexual energy that fuels the dance. The yellow man
in a handstand is a central, balancing force both for the composition and
life. The green woman and orange man represent more introspective, earth
based energies. All of their energies flare out into the border, as, in
life, each individual casts a wide circle around them. The vibrant colors
pulse with life, interacting with the rods and cones in each viewer's
eyes. Materials and techniques: hand dyed and commercial cottons, silk
ribbon, machine appliqué and quilted. Hangs from a rod through a sleeve
in the back. |
