| I go to Butterfly
World in Margate, FL as often as I can. It is a kind of paradise, filled
with butterflies, lush vegetation, orchids, waterfalls, humming birds and
koi. The last are carp which have been cultivated in Japan for their
beauty and vivid coloring. To throw a handful of fish food into the water
is to set the surface boiling with greedy mouths. Techniques and
materials: hand dyed and commercial cottons, silks, pieced, appliqué,
trapunto, quilted with metallic thread. This work was chosen to tour for a
year with Sulky of America's 1999 trunk show. Hangs from a rod through a
sleeve sewn on the back. |
