| In 1998, my husband and I took a long awaited trip to Italy. Seeing all the art there set my mind reeling. When we returned to our home in south Florida, I struggled with how to make that art relevant here. I began by writing word associations and the party theme emerged as a way to express the exuberance of the Italian Renaissance. I also had memories of visiting some of the sites with my father when I was 8 years old (hence, our figures in the background). The use of the computer to scan these ancient images seemed a good way to bring past and present together. Dressing the figures in beach clothing was lots of fun, placing me back into my childhood when I spent hours drawing and sewing. People's delight in the quilt has been most rewarding. I know I have succeeded in making these classical images meaningful to them. This work won Honorable Mention in the Fiber Art show, 2000 of Fireland Association for the Visual Arts of Oberlin, OH. It was also juried into the 1999 show at Clayton Street Gallery, Athens, GA, as well as 48th Florida Craftsmen Exhibition 2001 show in St. Petersburg, FL.
