I have created several works with extensive use of words, but this piece is about words. Both pieces contain sentences such as: words can be a knife, words can be immortality, words can be a veil, words comment constantly, they are not reality. "Words 1" pictures a large mouth with words pouring out of it. Safety pins stud the lips and underline various words. Be careful with what comes out of your mouth, there are no safety pins which seal your lips; no safety net to catch the hurtful words and prevent them from harming. "Words 2" pictures an ear into which words pour as in through a maze. Eventually the words disappear and marks representing sounds enter the ear. The word silence is written in various places. Both pieces feature words in many languages, many printed from the computer. The over all colors are black, white, and red. Materials and techniques: canvas, computer printed on cotton, commercial cottons, sheers, safety pins, machine pieced and quilted. Hangs from a rod through a sleeve in the back.
